Whispers of Bhagsu

Mcleodganj felt like one of those dreamy montages from a movie—except I was in it, with aching legs, wind in my hair, and a massive plate of momo at the end.
I started the day with no real plan, just a vague idea of “Bhagsu waterfall” and a craving for something green and noisy. The trail to Bhagsu is the perfect mix of scenic and slightly slippery—I passed tea stalls, chill dogs sunbathing like they owned the place, and fellow wanderers who all seemed equally lost and delighted.
And then—whoosh—Bhagsu Waterfall. There it was, cascading down the rocks like some divine Pinterest board. The water was freezing (yes, I dipped my hand in), and the sound was loud enough to drown out even my most stubborn thoughts. I sat on a rock for a good while, letting the mist kiss my face like some overly affectionate mountain breeze.
Then came the climb to Shiva Café—a twisty, rocky mini-hike that had me questioning every carb I’ve ever eaten and also made me think is it really worth climbing. But boy, oh boy, it was worth every ounce of sweat . The moment I stepped into Shiva Café, it felt like I’d entered some trippy Himalayan haven. Painted walls, Bob Marley murals, cushions everywhere, and the kind of music that makes you want to talk about the universe and order chai simultaneously.
I got a plate of Maggi (read: ‘Pahaado wali Maggi’), Tibetan Butter Tea( my new found love) and momo, and sat outside, watching clouds drift lazily over the valley. Time didn’t exist. The food was warm, the vibe was warmer, and for a brief moment, everything felt just...right.
Walking back, the sun was setting and the sky turned into this unreal canvas of purples and oranges. I felt small in the best way.
And as I came back to my stay in the Mall Road with my muddy shoes and a full heart, all I could think of was how next day I should go there again. It’s the kind of place that lets you slow down, breathe deeply, and remember that joy doesn’t always come with a Wi-Fi signal. I came back sunburnt, tired and completely in love. Would I go there again? Hell Yeah !!
